Maui Meyer first came to Hood River, Oregon in 1985 as part of the Windsurfing World Tour. He immediately fell in love with the area, and returned to live full time in the Gorge in 1991, after graduating from Cornell University, where he studied Food and Beverage Management, Finance, and Real Estate Development. "Post college, Hood River had a strong draw, and it literally came down to making a choice about love of a place over the ability to earn a living" says Meyer. "It was a great decision." In 1991, Meyer opened the Sixth Street Bistro, and a few years later, with additional partners, began a construction company, Nisei, then Copper West, Oregon Growers and Shippers, and most recently, Celilo Restaurant and Bar.
"Each of the businesses focus on a small part of a successful small scale economy based on the Conservation model" says Meyer. "Copper West isn't about Real Estate Sales as much as it's about being a trusted negotiator, and local "expert-advisor" to the process." All five companies are currently part of the larger Argonaut Investments portfolio, a partnership of Meyer and his business partner, Ben Stenn. As Managing Partner and Principal Broker of Copper West Real Estate, Meyer brings all his experience to the table.
"I've been in the community long enough, and in different capacities to have a detailed relationship with many aspects of Hood River's people, and their real estate properties, both Commercial and Residential. I tend to bring value to a transaction as a trusted member of the team, one that knows how to solve local problems before they threaten a deal, and to direct clients to the real estate properties and opportunities that are best for them in this marketplace." Meyer was a Hood River County Commissioner for 12 years and is active in local and state politics, focusing on rural resource issues. He currently lives in downtown Hood River with his wife Jan and three children.
